Vocational Study at BOSCO
Vocational Study at Bosco
At Bosco, we aim to prepare you for the world of work. If you sign up for our study programme you will choose a vocational core subject that will help you enter your chosen area of work.
We will create a personalised course for students who are committed to studying at Bosco. If you show us that you are willing to learn, we will do everything possible to design a course that meets your needs. There are various starting points on your learning journey depending on your previous qualifications and any specific emotional or learning needs:
-
Supported Internship
-
Diamond
-
Level 3
Supported Internship
If you have more complex needs, you will be supported into the world of work through an extended work placement in either one of our business activities or in a partner organisation.
Diamond – A Stepping Stone to a Brighter Future
This flexible programme aims to enable students to achieve a full Level 2 qualification. Many of you will join us from Year 11 with a very mixed profile of qualifications ranging from ungraded to GCSE in English, maths and a range of other subjects.
When you first come to Bosco we will determine the best level to start you on. Depending on the results of this process we will either start you on a Level 2 programme or on our Access to Learning Programme.
Access to Learning
This course has been designed to get you back into the habit of learning. It is a 12 week intensive foundation programme that has been designed to re engage you and prepare you for a full level 2 course.
Level 2
This is a full-time course that involves you studying English, maths, ICT, personal development, work experience and one of the following vocational subjects:
• Business
• Information Technology (Digital Pathways)
• Child Care
• Health and Social Care
• Digital Media
• Sport
If you successfully complete this course (including a level 2 English and maths qualification) you can progress onto the Level 3 qualification.
Level 3
When you sign up for sixth form, you are normally expected to commit to a two year programme. In the first few weeks, you may have some flexibility to change courses, but this is often restricted by availability or specific entry requirements.
Bosco is very different. We offer a unique pathway for young people, especially those, who experience additional barriers to learning. If you achieve English and maths at grade 4 and a couple of other GCSEs at grades 4-6, talk to Bosco about our modular approach to level 3 learning. Over two or three years you can build up a portfolio of qualifications that meet the entry requirements of many universities.
A-level programmes are assessed at the end of two years and offer little flexibility if you struggle with a particular course. We are different. You choose a combination of level 3 courses in year 1, most of which have assessment points during the year. These can be AS levels or Cambridge Technical certificates. At the year's end, you can extend the certificates, take longer to complete the qualifications, or choose entirely different subjects. As you progress, you will build a portfolio of qualifications that will count towards university entrance or a higher-level apprenticeship.
