Youth Work

Being a youth worker is being a friend to young people – a good friend who is a responsible role model and one who can help make a positive difference to young people’s lives.

You will be given the opportunity to prepare youth sessions,  and work with children and young people in a supervised setting. The "An Introduction to Youth Work at Level 1" certificate will prepare you for an apprenticeship or for work as an assistant in a youth setting.

The qualities that you will need for youth work include being:

• Cheerful and good humoured.
• Responsible.
• Kind.
• A believer in the “goodness” of young people.
• Respectful.

In order to work in a youth setting, you will need to have an enhanced DBS check

Is it for you? It’s a challenge, but to be able to make a positive difference to children and young people’s lives is really a vocation!
