We understand that for many children this will be their first time at a nursery or separation from their parents for any length of time, therefore this must be handled with care and sensitivity. We recognise that each child is different and individual and some children take longer to adapt to new surroundings than others. We want to make this transition as easy as possible for them and you. We also want parents to feel welcomed and involved from the beginning.
As each child is different, there is no set way of dealing with every situation; however we will work alongside each other to make your child settle in their new environment as easily and quickly as possible.
In order to accomplish this you will be invited to take part in our settling in sessions before your official starting date. You will normally find that after a few sessions your child will be quite happy for you to leave him/her.
If a child is unable to settle and requires more time, we encourage parents to stay as long as required, we want to make this as much a pleasurable and stress free time for both child and parent.
Whilst child and parents are attending our nursery they are both encouraged to take part in activities, they will become familiar with our day to day routines, and become familiar with our all our staff. Each child will be introduced to their key person who will support them into settling in. We have found this helps all children within their first week; it also gives added support to parents who may find this a difficult time.
Children cannot play or learn successfully if they are anxious and unhappy. Our settling procedures aim to help parents and children to feel comfortable in the nursery, and to ensure that children can benefit from what we have to offer and fee Confident that their parents will return at the end of the session/day.
